While travelling Crete you will have many moments that go by in the blink of an eye without the chance of recording them or taking a picture. In our Video Journeys we showcase some of the best videos we have found of the places we visited or plan on visiting soon. We would like to thank the creators of these videos and hope you enjoy a taste of Crete!
Today we are visiting the wonderful city of Rethymnon in central Crete.
Rethymnon is the capital of Rethymno regional unit on the island of Crete. With a population of around 40,000 people it has all the amenities of a city while retaining a charming atmosphere. The Byzantine and Venetian architecture can be found throughout Rethymnon and it is totally worth it to take a stroll and just admire the buildings. Grabbing a frappe in one of the numerous kafenions doesn’t hurt either.
The Old Town has areas designated only for pedestrians but still be careful on your walks in the area – it is Greece after all and traffic rules are bent…sometimes. 😉
If you are not sure what to see during your visit, check out our Top 10 things to do in Rethymno and explore our site for more specific information on places we visited. Oh, and if you need a bite to eat, check out our favourite restaurant Vassilis for excellent greek food or Mojo Burgers near the Venetian harbour for some quick fast food.
